One stunning dozen black and blue copper Marans eggs.
Thanks to DNA testing performed by Helix Technologies in New Zealand, we can confirm our roosters are all free of the recessive white gene, meaning you will not hatch any unwanted white chicks from our eggs. If you are intending to breed your birds forward, you will need to test your chicks to select out any that may carry recessive white from the maternal side.
Dark and large, and holding their colour pleasingly throughout the season.
Breeding group comprises a black copper rooster over black hens, with a few blue copper girls included. This means most chicks are black copper, with a small percentage of blues possible.
Handsome hens — big and heavy with long backs, low tails and a rich copper hackle.
We select for both egg colour and the look of the bird. With Marans, it's a balancing act. Often the best-looking hens don't lay the darkest eggs and the darkest-laying hens don't necessarily look the prettiest. Your dozen will give you the best of both worlds so you can choose how to breed them forward.
A note on egg colour: Eggs are photographed for the website at the start of the season, when shells are darkest. For current egg colour, please ask or see our latest social media posts. Prior to packaging, you will receive video and a photograph of your exact eggs.
