Prepare to enter the world of olives.
One dozen olive eggs in various shades including dark olives.
Expect olives verging on gold, speckled sage greys and blues.
Rest assured, the blue eggs are not misplaced in your olive box.
Chicks from our olive egger breeding program grow up to lay colours on a spectrum ranging from green (and the occasional blue), eucalypt and mint to dark olives in mushroom and khaki. The occasional grey and pink blooms come out of this pen.
Some can best be described as avocado choc chip..
There really is no end to the possible permutations and combinations.
Note: Our olive layers are spread across different pens. Some are matched with Araucana roosters, others with Black Copper Marans. We breed back to Marans to darken the olives, but it does mean plain old light brown layers arise. Non-olives are an unavoidable by-product of the pursuit of dark olives and these eggs are usually very pretty in their own right. One of our “failed” olive eggers lays a white frosted pink. Siring by Araucanas also means eggs towards the blue end of the colour scale arise — these are more correctly called Easter eggers.
